During the global village experience students will engage in a variety of activities as a group, designed to connect concepts learned during the workshops while at UNCP.
Workshop Schedule* – UC 233:
July 10 - Other's Circumstances
July 17 - Global Leadership
July 24 - Responding to Change
July 31 – Logistics Meeting
*All four meetings are mandatory. If a student is absent at any one workshop without proper prior notice, they will not be able to attend the Global Leadership Experience
ABOUT THE HEIFER GLOBAL VILLAGE
Visiting the Heifer Global Village at Shepherd’s Spring is an adventure complete with international homes, gardens, and livestock that represent living conditions for developing nations in which Heifer International* works. Participants in these programs will be challenged to examine their own habits, consumption, and beliefs through unique hands-on learning experiences that seek to promote an awareness and understanding of:
- Global Economics
- Hunger and Nutrition
- Poverty Issues
- Social Equality and Justice
- Environmental Conservation
Our Global Village currently offers eight “home” sites, representing regions of Guatemala, Mozambique, Kenya, Appalachia, Refugees, Thailand, and Tibet. We offer Heifer International’s three, standards-based programs as well as several In-House designed programs that feature the Global Village.
Participants will learn how Heifer International works to help people by finding sustainable solutions, what it means to care for the earth and how our individual choices affect the world. Soil erosion, lack of clean water and waste are just a few topics that will be explored during the program. Research is done by participants to further explore Heifer's work in the countries of our Global Village.
PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN
- Civic responsibility through other’s circumstances
- Learning and reasoning through others perspectives
- Learning and reasoning through Systems Thinking
- Communication through advocating for a point of view
- Personal Behaviors through Responding to Change
Please note this is an outdoor based experience.
