Workshop Schedule* – UC 233:

July 10 - Other's Circumstances

July 17 - Global Leadership

July 24 - Responding to Change

ABOUT THE HEIFER GLOBAL VILLAGE

Visiting the Heifer Global Village at Shepherd’s Spring is an adventure complete with international homes, gardens, and livestock that represent living conditions for developing nations in which Heifer International* works. Participants in these programs will be challenged to examine their own habits, consumption, and beliefs through unique hands-on learning experiences that seek to promote an awareness and understanding of:

  • Multiculturalism
  • Global Economics
  • Hunger and Nutrition
  • Poverty Issues
  • Social Equality and Justice
  • Environmental Conservation

Our Global Village currently offers eight “home” sites, representing regions of Guatemala, Mozambique, Kenya, Appalachia, Refugees, Thailand, and Tibet. We offer Heifer International’s three, standards-based programs as well as several In-House designed programs that feature the Global Village.

Participants will learn how Heifer International works to help people by finding sustainable solutions, what it means to care for the earth and how our individual choices affect the world. Soil erosion, lack of clean water and waste are just a few topics that will be explored during the program. Research is done by participants to further explore Heifer's work in the countries of our Global Village.

PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN

  1. Civic responsibility through other’s circumstances
  2. Learning and reasoning through others perspectives
  3. Learning and reasoning through Systems Thinking
  4. Communication through advocating for a point of view
  5. Personal Behaviors through Responding to Change

Please note this is an outdoor based experience.

The University of North Carolina at Pembroke and the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership encourage all members of the community to be a part of the many activities we have to offer.  If you require assistance or an accommodation to participate in this activity, please contact leadership@uncp.edu so that appropriate arrangements can be made. This publication is available in alternative formats upon  request.  Please contact the Accessibility Resource Center in the D. F. Lowry Building, 521-6695.
